Reminder: Berkeley Collegium "Narrowing the Gap between Teaching and Research" proposals DUE on March 1, 2018

February 15, 2018

Dear Colleagues:

The Berkeley Collegium is charged with the mission of fostering innovation and excellence in undergraduate teaching at UC Berkeley. Its members are among Berkeley’s most creative, inspiring, and effective teachers, and the Collegium provides this group of faculty members with resources for initiatives that will elevate teaching, especially at the undergraduate level, across the campus.

Currently, the Collegium is inviting proposals for new or existing projects that further the goal of narrowing the gap between teaching and research at Berkeley. For an existing project, grant funds should not be viewed as replacement funding, but rather should be targeted for expanding or improving (e.g., adding a new component) to the project. The focus is on undergraduates, but proposals may incorporate graduate and postdoctoral students if relevant (see examples below). We aim to fund up to five projects of up to $20,000 each over a 1-2 year grant period (depending on the nature of the project). The grant period would begin at the start of the Fall 2018 semester.

Detailed information about the grant, as well as submission instructions and the submission portal, can be found here: http://collegium.berkeley.edu/?page_id=19

All applications must be received by midnight on Thursday, March 1, 2018.

If you have questions, please feel free to email Chelan Huddleston at chelan@berkeley.edu. If you are a manager who supervises UC Berkeley employees without email access, please circulate this information to all.

Best regards,

Catherine P. Koshland
Vice Chancellor, Undergraduate Education
