The Division of Undergraduate Education includes seven major operating units which offer programs and services that support Berkeley students, faculty, and staff in teaching, learning, and discovery. The head of each unit reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education.
American Cultures Center
The American Cultures (AC) Center is committed to fostering academic excellence and civic engagement of issues critical to America's dynamic ethnic, racial and sociocultural landscape. After nearly thirty-years, and the development of hundreds of courses, the AC requirement has become a staple of the undergraduate experience at UC Berkeley.
Arts + Design
Arts + Design features, fortifies, and mobilizes existing excellence in the arts and design at UC Berkeley, while fostering dynamic collaboration, innovation, and public access across all arts and design fields, on campus and in public life.
Athletic Study Center
The Athletic Study Center supports student athletes in developing as independent, self-reliant and successful young adults. The Athletic Study Center is committed to the integration and engagement of student athletes into campus life, and provides holistic student development, academic support, and academic advising services to the student athlete population at UC Berkeley.
Berkeley Connect
Berkeley Connect is an innovative academic community-building program that connects undergraduates with graduate student mentors and with small groups of their peers, in order to increase their sense of belonging and their confidence they can succeed at UC Berkeley.
Research, Teaching, and Learning Services
Research, Teaching and Learning Services (RTL) supports Berkeley’s ever-evolving teaching and research needs by providing essential, coordinated, policy-aligned tools, services, and expertise to the entire campus. RTL includes the following units:
Academic Innovation Studio
The Academic Innovation Studio (AIS) brings together faculty, researchers, graduate students, and service providers to inspire and support experimentation, connect people, and share ideas. The AIS serves instructors and researchers across the entire campus community.
Center for Teaching and Learning
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) partners with faculty to inspire, enrich, and innovate Berkeley’s collective practice and pursuit of teaching excellence. In pursuing this mission, we provide pedagogical and assessment expertise from course to curriculum.
Digital Learning Services
Digital Learning Services (DLS) provides services and consultations to faculty in support of their pursuit of effective teaching and learning at Berkeley for face-to-face, blended and fully online courses.
Educational Technology Services
Educational Technology Services (ETS) enhances and supports the UC Berkeley academic experience by providing essential, responsive and innovative technology services.
KALX Radio
KALX FM broadcasts freeform radio to the SF Bay Area at 90.7 FM and to the world on the internet. KALX provides students with experiential learning, leadership and discovery opportunities, and the ability to produce and broadcast high-quality, creative and diverse programming not heard elsewhere on the radio.
Research IT
Research IT provides research computing and data technologies and consulting, and facilitates collaborative communities of research support for the Berkeley campus. Our fundamental goal is to advance campus faculty and students research by providing the best IT tools and expertise as inexpensively as possible.
Student Learning Center
The Student Learning Center (SLC) is the primary academic support unit on campus, serving approximately 40% of the undergraduate population. We take pride in being a student-centered, service-oriented, and culturally diverse learning hub. Through a wide range of service formats—including tutoring, study groups, course adjuncts, academic coaching, study strategies workshops, research skills seminars, and cultural and wellness programs—we push the traditional boundaries of learning-center practices to deliver a holistic and rigorous learning experience for Berkeley students.

Berkeley Study Abroad supports the academic and public mission of the University of California to prepare our students to be productive and engaged citizens at home and abroad. We believe that knowledge, skills, and experiences gained through academic and cultural immersion offered by studying and living abroad enrich the intellectual preparation of our students and fundamentally enhance the relevance of a Berkeley education.
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
OLLI @Berkeley is a learning community for older adults that showcases the best, most relevant scholarship flourishing on campus and in the world—ideas and insights informed by today’s news, tailored for learners with decades of lived experiences. Along with gaining exclusive access to courses and select events, OLLI @Berkeley members also enjoy opportunities to participate in groundbreaking research, workshops, interest groups, activities and educational outings.
