Catherine P. Koshland

Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education

Catherine P. Koshland is the Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education (VCUE) at UC Berkeley. As VCUE, she provides leadership on undergraduate education at Berkeley and is responsible for implementation of the campus strategic plan recommendations around Diversity, and Student Experience and Enrollment. VCUE Koshland oversees several strategic initiatives and academic programs, including Berkeley Discover, Berkeley Connect, the Berkeley Collegium, the American Cultures Center, and Berkeley Arts + Design, as well as major operating units such as Summer Sessions, Study Abroad and Lifelong Learning, the Athletic Study Center, The Student Learning Center, and Research, Teaching, and Learning Services, which provides support to faculty development through the Center for Teaching and Learning. She advises on enrollment planning and management, serves as a liaison for academic units with many campus administrative offices, and chairs a number of campus committees.  

In addition to her role as VCUE, Koshland is the Wood-Calvert Professor in the College of Engineering, professor of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health, and a professor in the Energy and Resources Group. Vice Chancellor Koshland graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts from Haverford College, studied painting at the New York School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, and received her M.S. in 1978 and her Ph.D. in 1985 in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. She is a former chair and member of the Haverford College Board of Managers. She is a past Cal Parent with three Golden Bears: Sarah (1999), Maggie (2002), and Jacob (MBA 2019).
