The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA), the highest teaching award on the UC Berkeley campus. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
DTA guidelines and procedures can be found on the Center for Teaching & Learning website. If you have questions about the guidelines, procedures or application, please contact Glynda Hull, Chair of the Committee on Teaching, or Brit Toven-Lindsey, staff representative to the Committee on Teaching.
Since 1959, the Distinguished Teaching Award has recognized Berkeley faculty for teaching that rises above and beyond the individual class to a sustained performance of excellence. This kind of teaching incites intellectual curiosity in students, inspires departmental colleagues, and makes students aware of significant relationships between the academy and the world at large.
The Distinguished Teaching Award Ceremony will be held April 2019 (date TBD).
While the nomination needs to be approved and submitted by the department chair, vice-chair for instruction, or other appropriate official, the nomination itself may be initiated by anyone in a department, including students. We strongly encourage you to nominate someone from your department for this prestigious award.
